Position: Communications Officer in the Center for Global Chance Science department (Full Time)
Location: Cambridge, MA
Description and Duties:
- to facilitate external communications and manage the dissemination of public information
- function as a writer/editor, webmaster, and public information officer promoting the program's research and newsworthy activities; manage and extend communications efforts in support of the program's mission
- develop and implement plans, anticipate issues, and with input from program directors devise solutions
- work with researchers to translate complex ideas and technical findings and prepare highlights for public release; produce quarterly newsletters for sponsor liaisons in industry, government, and foundations
- maintain multimedia products and shared communication resources
- coordinate program participation in educational outreach
- bachelor's degree in environmental science, economics, engineering, public policy, or related field
- evidence of an ability to communicate complex concepts
- excellent writing and interpersonal skills
- proficiency with modern publishing and web-based communication tools
- the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively with a diverse interdisciplinary group
- Science journalism experience or a multidisciplinary background preferred; An understanding of economic/policy analysis and climate science is highly desirable.?
- Initial appointment is for one year with possibility of extension depending on performance. Evaluations will begin immediately with anticipated start date of October 1, 2011.
