Man says doctors watched Red Sox instead of treating him

I hate to even bring this up mention this, but it?s sports-related, and this blog must do its duty. A Brockton, Mass., bus driver is suing Yale-New Haven Hospital for $2 million, claiming that staff doctors and nurses failed to treat his painful erection condition in a timely manner because they were watching the Red Sox game on TV.

Daren Scott says he suffered an onset of priapism ? a persistent painful erection unrelated to sexual stimulation ? in April of 2009 while driving his bus. He says that when he got to the hospital, they told him his bus was parked in the wrong place and that he had to go back and move it. So despite the pain, says Scott, he did so. Then someone at the desk told him he would have to wait to be treated.

While waiting, Scott said he noticed that the facility?s staff, including physicians on duty, was watching the game on TV. Scott says his pain worsened and he told a nurse.

?Notwithstanding this call for help, the staff, including the physicians, continued to watch the baseball game and ignore plaintiff?s condition,? the lawsuit states.

The hospital has said that the lawsuit is groundless, and is fighting it. The Red Sox upended defeated the Orioles, 10-8.
