To the editor:
The Lakeway July 4th parade and day-long activities is the largest event the City of Lakeway organizes each year and we are starting plans already! Each year we have a fabulous parade with great involvement from our local residents and businesses. The only thing lacking is an enthusiastic marching band. While Parade Chairs have tried for years to secure a marching band to be in our parade, the timing of the July 4th celebration has presented a challenge since school is out of session for the summer months. While communities in our region have been successful in recruiting their local schools to participate in their parades, we continue to come up short. We have even tried to recruit other schools only to discover that they are already committed to their community celebrations.
I can?t fail to mention that the lovely young women in the Cavalettes and Cheerleaders have always supported our parade with their participation. And this year, the Lake Travis Fiddlers joined us to provide fabulous entertainment at the Activity Center. We are very grateful for the faithful support of these organizations and students in the Lakeway July 4th celebration.
We now hope to grow community participation with your help. If anyone in our area has any influence with LTHS or suggestions for another school band, please help us to speak with them so we can recruit a band (or some portion of it) for our parade.
