Not to worry. Let our resident experts guide you back on track with these great relationships tips.
1. Go for a Walk. Not just for dogs! Going for a walk together is a great way to relieve stress, get away from the home and all the jobs that need doing for a bit. It could be a bushwalk, a stroll through a local park, a beach side meander, or even just an amble round the neighbourhood.
You?ll be surprised how quickly conversation blooms. In fact, many couples report some of their best conversation time happens like this, when out on a simple walk.
Give it a try and see for yourself! Do it in the late afternoon for a nice wind down to the day, or early in the day as a gentle way to wake up for the morning. You might save some money on coffee!
2. Schedule Regular Date Nights. These days, the idea of a ?Date Night? has almost become a clich?. But there?s good reasons for its popularity. Most relationship counsellors now recommend couples in long-term relationships make a habit of regular Date Nights, especially if they have kids.
Why not make it your habit too. It?s a good idea to plan accordingly though, beware leaving details to chance, unless you both of you really enjoy that spur-of-the-moment-stuff. Otherwise you never know how things may wind up.
3. Get Up and Go To Bed at the Same Time. Sound a little corny, a little bit too 1950s? Think again. Sometimes it?s not practical to get on the same sleep schedule, but if you can, you may be surprised by how nice it actually is.
4. Take Lunch Together. Once a week at least, if you can. Of course if you insist on five-star restaurants this could start to get expensive, but it doesn?t have to. Make a sandwich or even picnic basket and head to a nearby park or beach instead.
5. Take an Interest in Your Spouse?s Interests/Hobbies. This goes double, of course, if you?re not particularly interested in said activity/hobby?
Extra brownie points for making the effort! Go on, bite the bullet?you know they?ll love you for it.
6. Have a Candle-lit Dinner. Another one that may seem clich?d, but again there?s a reason for its perennial popularity. And it doesn?t need to be just reserved for Valentine?s Day or anniversaries. If anything, having a spontaneous candle-lit dinner for its own sake only adds to its meaningfulness.
So why not bust out your best china (not literally?), silk tablecloth, fine silver and favourite wine, and make tonight a romantic dinner for two, all in the comfort and privacy of your own home. What could be more intimate?
7. Make Out. Why not? It?s not just for teenagers. You probably used to do this spontaneously all the time, so why stop?
Get physical some time without it leading to sex. On the couch during ad breaks, a secluded spot on the beach, during a drive in the country (just be careful when driving!)
8. Shower or Bath Together. Hopefully no explanation required here!
9. Flirt Together. Send Daily Emails, Texts. Whether it?s sappy, sensual, or a simple ?how?s your day??, these messages are a great way to keep connected when apart, and guaranteed to put a smile on your significant other?s face, no matter how cheesy it may seem at first.
10. And Most Important of All: Make Time. We all know what modern life can be like. Sometimes, your time seems already spoken for days , even weeks, in advance.
All the more reason to value what free time you do have, and invest it in what counts most.
