Ryan Harris doubtful for South Africa Tests ? Cricket News Update

Australian fast bowler Ryan Harris has expressed doubts regarding his ability to regain full fitness in time for the upcoming Test series against South Africa later this year, having yet to recover from a shoulder surgery.

?I would love to be able to be back against South Africa but at this stage it is pretty unrealistic. It is one of those things I can't control,? Harris said while speaking to News Limited newspapers. ?I will get back for Queensland and let the rest take care of itself before any Australian stuff. In theory I will be up and going in six weeks but it is an injury we will not rush. The pain is going, I just have to build confidence now but believe I can get back well.?

With their sights set on the number one spot on the ICC?s Test team rankings, the Aussies will be battling it out with the Proteas in a three-match Test series which begins on November 9, and ends on December 4. In the absence of Harris, youngsters Pat Cummins and James Pattinson, in addition to senior pacemen Ben Hilfenhaus and Peter Siddle, will be dominating the attack.

However, the presence of Harris would have proved a major boost to the Aussies as they look to claim the crown from the Proteas.

The 32-year-old right-arm pacer made his Test debut for the national side in a series against New Zealand during March 2010, and has since gone on to display enormous potential in the extended-overs format of the game. He claimed 9 wickets during the two Tests he played against the Kiwis, and went on to impress with 11 scalps from three Ashes Tests during December 2010.

A series against Sri Lanka in August/September 2011 saw him claiming 11 wickets in two Test matches, and his five-for (and an unbeaten half-century) in the Bridgetown Test against the West Indies in April this year earned him the Player of the Match award.

However, his career has been hampered by a string of injuries ? in addition to a chronic knee injury which he is expected to carry for the rest of his career, a broken bone in his left ankle, sustained during the third Ashes Test in Melbourne, saw him ruled out for nearly half a year.

The shoulder injury is the latest addition to the list of fitness complaints. Still on the mend from the operation he underwent two months ago, Harris is hoping to be back by December this year to help the team tackle the visiting Sri Lankans, who will be playing a series of 3 Tests, 5 ODIs, and 2 T20Is against Australia.
